Ms. Pamela
Hi, I’m Pamela, owner and educator of Thoughtful Play, and someone who has spent a lifetime nurturing, teaching, and learning alongside young children across many stages of development and in a variety of settings.
I spent 15 years working as a Minnesota Rule 3 preschool teacher in Montessori and play-based environments, as well as a professional nanny—caring for infants and young children with intention, love, and respect. During that time, I had the privilege of working alongside educators who were truly dedicated to the field of early childhood development. For over a decade, I was surrounded by teachers who viewed this work not just as a job, but as a calling. Five of those years were spent learning from an infant teacher whose knowledge and passion ran so deep that parents regularly turned to her for guidance—even before consulting their doctors. The women who led each classroom were deeply committed to their craft, and their mentorship helped shape me into the educator I am today. Being part of something so purposeful was both inspiring and formative.
Working at the school also introduced me to many families—some of whom I formed close and lasting connections with. Several parents invited me into their homes as a nanny, caregiver, and trusted support—caring not only for their children, but often for their homes and pets as well. Over time, those relationships led to referrals, and I found myself being sought out by their friends and extended networks as they began having children of their own. Even after relocating, families continued to reach out and ultimately requested my return—offering full-time employment because of the trust and care we had built together.
After that season, I transitioned into dental hygiene, where I’ve spent the past decade as a licensed provider. I entered the field to serve others in an area where compassion, patience, and clear communication are truly needed. I’ve always believed in meeting people where they are—helping them understand their oral health, motivating them to make meaningful lifestyle changes, and supporting them without judgment. I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals from all walks of life, including those with high anxiety, special needs, and complex medical histories. I’ve developed hygiene programs for a community clinic, worked in the dental clinic at the VA hospital, and volunteered my skills to help where support is needed most. I've also taught oral health education to preschool and elementary-aged children—believing strongly that healthy habits begin early. The power of a genuine smile is incredible, and I believe everyone deserves to experience that. My hope has always been to be a provider and advocate that people can trust, grow with, and feel supported by on their path to lifelong health.
But perhaps my most important role has been as a mother to two little boys—especially one with a rare medical condition. Walking through therapy appointments, hospital visits, and developmental milestones has taught me patience, advocacy, and the incredible value of individualized support. I’ve had the privilege of learning from gifted educators, as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapists, each of whom helped shape the way I see and support the whole child.
Thoughtful Play is the heart of all those experiences brought together—a program built on empathy, purpose, and joyful discovery. Every element is designed to serve children and families with care that is truly thoughtful.
The Family
A Home Full of Heart
Thoughtful Play isn’t just a program—it’s our home. When your child joins us, they’re welcomed into a space filled with warmth, laughter, and a whole lot of heart.
You may occasionally meet my husband, Deryk, a regional manager in the propane industry and an officer on the Ironton Fire Department. While he’s not part of daily care, he’s a friendly, familiar face when around—and always happy to be silly with the kids.
Our two boys are often part of the background rhythms of the day and bring even more joy and connection to the environment.
We also share our home with a few beloved animals:
🐾 Sugar and Chevy, our two energetic and social yellow labs
🪿 Two friendly geese, who love attention and waddling around the yard
🐓 And a small flock of chickens, offering a natural way for children to learn about care, responsibility, and where food comes from
Together, we’ve created a nurturing space where children can feel safe, seen, and part of something special.
About Thoughtful Play
Thoughtful Play was created with the belief that early childhood should be filled with wonder, purpose, and connection. This in-home program offers a warm, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, problem-solve, and grow at their own pace—developing confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of self along the way.
While play is at the heart of learning, structure is what helps it take root. At Thoughtful Play, I believe children feel most secure—and most free to explore—when they know what to expect. Gentle routines, clear boundaries, and consistent guidance create a calm environment where children feel safe enough to take risks, express themselves, and dive deeply into discovery. When expectations are thoughtful and predictable, children grow with confidence, independence, and a true sense of belonging.
Here, play is never just play—it’s the foundation of learning. Whether it’s pouring water, building with blocks, helping prepare a snack, or caring for a plant, every moment is seen as an opportunity for growth. Children are supported with gentle guidance, age-appropriate independence, and materials chosen with care and intention.
At Thoughtful Play, every child is seen, heard, and valued. With a small group size and personalized care, each child receives the attention they need to thrive—socially, emotionally, and developmentally. Families are welcomed as partners, and trust, communication, and respect are at the heart of everything we do.
This isn’t just childcare—it’s a thoughtfully crafted experience designed to support the whole child and the whole family.
At Thoughtful Play, I promise this:
Every child in my care will be safe, loved, and treated with respect. I intentionally foster an environment where kindness is modeled, and children are encouraged to show respect, empathy, and good manners to those around them. These values are woven into our daily rhythm—guiding how we learn, play, and grow together.
